Elder Nutrition

Mission Statement

To provide a nutritional meal five days a week to our tribal members and other tribal affiliated members 55 of age or older that reside in Baraga County. 

Requirements and eligibility guidelines for the Title VI Program

Daily meal offered complies with the Older Americans Act (OAA) requirement to provide a minimum of 33 1/3 % of the Dietary Reference Intake.

  • KBIC member or a member  of another federally recognized tribe
  • 55 years or older
  • Spouses of eligible elders
  • Resident of Baraga County
  • Complete an intake form and provide a copy of updated Tribal ID
  • Individuals with disabilities or illness who reside at home with eligible elder for services
  • Must participate a minimum of 3 meals per week to stay on program
    • Please notify Senior Center when unable to attend (353-6096)
      • Guests meals are NOT offered at this time – when offered; minimum cost is $6.00 per meal

Congregate Meal Service

Meals served at Ojibwa Senior Center five days per week Monday through Friday 11:30 – 1:00. Ojibwa Senior Center operates under KBIC Government and closes due to inclement weather or holidays.

Home Delivered Meal Service

Elders should only be on home-delivered meal program if they are unable to leave their homes without great difficulty because of illness or disability.  Meal participants must have application on file and have a Home Delivered Meal Authorization Form completed and certified by their health care provider.  Boundaries for services: Baraga reservation and Village of L’Anse to Power Dam Road, to Pikes Peak and Haataja Road in Skanee. Ojibwa Senior Center operates under KBIC Government and closes due to inclement weather or holidays.

Contributions

Any amounts of voluntary contributions are accepted for meal services and monies donated will be redistributed into the Elder Nutrition Program and kept confidential.  Monetary collection box is available at the Ojibwa Senior Center during congregate dining or can be mailed to the Elder Nutrition Program 16429 Beartown Road, Baraga, MI. 49908.
